A Tribute to My Brother David

I’m very saddened to let you all know that my twin brother David recently passed away after a brief illness. He was a really wonderful person. Though he worked in the tech/IT world, his first love was music. He received a music degree in performance, and was an excellent percussionist, drummer and composer.

He was such a big help to me in so many ways, and it’s hard to accept that he’s gone. A really great guy, with a lovely family who I know will also miss him terribly.

I’ve posted a short tribute to him on YouTube. Many of the musical concepts I’ve written about over the years on this blog either came directly from him, or were edited with his suggestions.

Thanks Dave, for everything.

  4. Sorry for your loss Gary. I know how difficult this is. I lost my husband, soul-mate, my best friend in late October 2021. It’s so hard to go on in this life without him. Don’t think I’ll ever be the same again.

    • Thanks very much Donna. Yes, these things do change us forever. I’ll focus on the good memories and keep moving forward. I’m so sorry for the loss of your husband.

  5. I’m sorry for you and your family.

Thank you for telling us a bit about your wonderful brother. He must have been doing a good job at helping you with your blog. Your posts are always appreciated. And I have received many in all those years.

    My condolences.

  6. Such sad news to hear about the loss of your brother. I do not know you but have followed your blog for many many years. I have always appreciated the songwriting tips over the years and it has helped my songwriting skills develop over the years. Many thanks to you and your brother David. I hope that he is at peace. I lost my father to lung cancer almost a year ago and wrote a song for him before he had passed. I couldn’t write for a while but have just started again. Perhaps writing a song in honour of your brother may be helpful.
All the best. Below is a link to the song I wrote my father. Thank the heavens for music, it crosses time and death. It is limitless like love.

    • Thanks so much, Amber. Someone in a choir I conduct suggested that I write something in David’s honour, and it’s something I’d like to do. I’ll give your song a listen in the next day or so — I’m sure it’s a lovely tribute to your father.

      Take care,
      -Gary
