Greetings to you all! As you likely know, I’ve stepped back a bit from keeping my blog updated. As many of you no doubt experience from time to time, situations dictate that your point of focus must change. That happened to me. I had gotten into piano tuning a number of years ago, and more recently it’s ballooned from being a side activity to becoming quite demanding. And commissions I have received to write music, particularly choral music, have also increased. So something had to give.
And looking back at all the posts I had done — I think about 3000 of them, which astonishes me! — I began to wonder if I had said pretty much everything I could say about songwriting. People still write me with questions, which very much pleases me.
And by the way, if you do need to write, either about songwriting, or about any of my eBooks, I need to give you a new address. My old address, gary@pantomimemusic.com, is no longer functioning, so please feel free to contact me at this address:

My Thoughts on Songwriting Today
The world of songwriting today is a much different one from the year when I began writing my songwriting blog: 2008. Of course, it’s impossible to ignore the impact that computers and especially artificial intelligence have had on the writing of music.
And as I think I mentioned in the last post I had written, one can despair that it hardly makes sense to compose if AI can write a hundred songs in mere seconds. But I hope you don’t despair, and I most certainly hope you are writing songs.
The one thing AI cannot replace is YOU! Computers are impressive, and I am quite interested in the advances that technology has made over the years. But when I listen to music, I want to hear the notes, chords and words that my fellow human is finding best describes the workings of their mind.
So I hope you are writing, and I hope you are looking for ways to make your songs even more effective and powerful. People need to hear your songs!
If you’d like to reach out about anything to do with songwriting, or to inquire about my songwriting ebooks, please write. There are some days when I am ridiculously busy, so please be patient. But I usually manage to reply within 24-48 hours, and I’ll do my best.
